We are looking forward to welcoming you to Marblehead, Massachusetts and the Eastern Yacht Club. Eastern Yacht Club is the primary home for the local J70 Fleet 9, which is very active and growing bigger each year.
The club has hosted a multitude of local, national, and international sailing events, including the Etchells Worlds, Star Worlds, IOD Worlds, Olympic Class Regattas, Viper 640 North Americans, Sonar Worlds, J105 North Americans, Marblehead NOOD, and most recently the Star North American Championship in September 2017.
In 1994 Eastern Yacht Club received the coveted St. Petersburg Trophy, awarded for the Race Committee’s outstanding management of that year’s Star North Americans. In 2017 our Race Committee ran more than 80 races throughout the calendar year.
A visit to the Eastern Yacht Club is a walk through yachting history, from the glorious days of the huge racing yachts to the present-day active and competitive one-designs. Nearly 130 years of yachting history can be found in Marblehead and on our premises with trophies and medals marking our illustrious history.
As a participant in the J/70 World Championship, you will have guest privileges at the EYC.
STAYING IN MARBLEHEAD
On Boston’s North Shore, Marblehead is a vibrant, historic, seaside town, settled in the early 1600s. Our roots are deep in the founding of our country and, as a result, our historic district is home to the largest concentration of pre-revolutionary war homes in America. From our vibrant small-town retail areas to cultural landmarks, like the Marblehead Museum, Marblehead Arts Association and parks and beaches to great dining, marine services and yacht clubs, Marblehead has a lot to offer during your time off the water. If you are staying at or near any of the clubs, or in the historic district, you will likely park and walk during your time in town as there will be launch access from many points in t
As beautiful as our town is, it is also small! You should make your housing arrangements as early as possible. Our harbor is home to the Boston Yacht Club, and the Corinthian Yacht Club as well as the Eastern; these are your best room and board options with all three providing exquisite bars and porches, showers and close proximity to launch services to get you and your team where you need to be easily and efficiently.
There are fine hotels and bed and breakfasts in town including the Harborlight Inn, the Marblehead Inn, and many more listed here. The City of Salem is just next door to Marblehead, providing more and larger hotels including the Salem Waterfront and the Hawthorne hotels, and many more listed here.
There may also be homes for rent during this time. If you are interested in this option, please ask to join the Housing 2018 J70 World Championship Group through the J70 2018 World Championship Facebook page, which we also encourage you to like and follow.
If you are interested in securing private dock space in town during the event, please
contact Marblehead Trading Company or the Marblehead Harbor Master. All competitors must advise the OA of their location if they choose this option.
